Solar Project/Operations Manager

The Solar Project Manager leads, builds and manages the construction of our projects for our solar customers. They work with suppliers, our teams of installers, and any sub-contractors, to ensure successful completion and closeout of the projects in Southeast PA and South-Central NJ.

Responsibilities include:

Preliminary Site Assessment, Managing Construction and workmanship, Arriving at and managing best practices to meet the goals of our installations, and ensuring proper cost and timely delivery at construction close-out. This work includes:

  • Capable of performing a variety of tasks and "wearing multiple hats", such as technical, management, development, external communications, problem solving.

  • Perform preliminary site assessments to confirm measurements, shade, azimuth, slope, electrical site specifications, assess feasibility, confirm design requirements, etc. (requires climbing ladders/walking on roofs)
  • Create permit and construction documents for residential and small commercial PV systems, including equipment layouts, elevations, electrical diagrams and construction details.
  • Provide PV bill of materials (BOM) from plans.
  • Develop project scopes and schedules. Create and update construction pipeline for all contracted projects in project management application.
  • Coordinate, plan, schedule and supervise actions of field personnel and subcontractors.
  •  Develop and inspect compliance with installation quality control procedures.

  •  Develop and maintain customer relationships.

  •  Oversee site safety plan and procedures. Enforce said procedures to attain zero incidents.

  •  Direct purchase of materials for projects from suppliers. Management of customer expectations and material deliveries to project sites.

  •  Assess system performance or functionality at the system, subsystem, and component levels.

  •  Coordinate or schedule building and electrical inspections for solar installation projects.

  •  Monitor work of installation teams and subcontractors to ensure projects conform to plans, specifications, schedules, and/or budgets.

  •  Perform start-up of systems for testing and customer implementation.

  •  Prepare final project documentation.

  • Provide technical assistance to installation teams, subcontractors, or other solar professionals in areas such as solar electric systems, solar thermal systems, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.

  •  Evaluate subcontractors or subcontractor bids for quality, cost, and reliability and evaluate subcontractor performance.

  •  Develop and maintain system architecture, including all wiring, piping, instrumentation, or process flow diagrams.

  •  Estimate materials, equipment, and personnel needed for residential (and some small commercial) solar installation projects.

  •  Identify means to reduce costs, minimize risks, or increase efficiency of solar installation projects.

  • Consider and pay attention to cost, quality, client needs and satisfaction and workmanship during the entire process.

  • Continued commitment to ongoing knowledge development to stay abreast of technical and component developments in the solar field

Skillsets include:

Administrative Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word

  • General filing, excellent organization and safekeeping of documents

  • Calling customers and vendors in a timely manner

  • Tracking and entering job related information into our proprietary customer relationship system.

Math Skills:

  • Possessing the necessary mathematical skills: unit conversions, fractions, decimals, percentages and basic algebra

  • Paying particular attention to the numbers on all documents: reviewing engineering calculations, performing ohms law, ampacities, KW, customer payments, price quotes and vendor sales orders

Communication Skills:

Solar/Construction Skills:

  • 5 years managing residential solar installation projects/operations or construction projects/operations (required)

  • 3-5 years experience installing solar PV systems, desirable but not required
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code is desirable

  • Experience working with city/ county permitting offices and inspectors

  • NABCEP certification, or goal to get certification imminently.

  • Must have own vehicle/transportation and valid drivers license.  Mileage over commute to Newtown warehouse reimbursed.
